The following speeches are original speeches written by students for Veteran's Day.

Jack Booker - Patriotism

Patriotism. Patriotism can help describe a veteran because it means they have national pride in their homeland. They have to be able leave their families, friends, and loved ones when getting sent in to combat. There aren’t a lot of people who would sacrifice so much if they did not have a very patriotic way of viewing the country that they love and support. The dictionary describes Patriotism as devoted love, support, and defense of ones country, and those words are exactly what come to mind when I think of a veteran. Veterans are  special people who have the guts to support their land and do whatever it takes to protect it. That is a very patriotic way of viewing their life. Patriotism is in the heart and blood of every veteran living and dead. Veterans really deserve more respect then we are capable of giving. Patriotism.

Max Schneider - Courage

Courage. What is courage? The dictionary describes courage as “the ability to do something that frightens one,” but I think that to a soldier courage means so much more. When a soldier is deployed he (or she) has to face the fear of leaving home, the fear of leaving family, and even the fear of an uncertain future. However, the soldier faces those fears and continues with his (or her) deployment. When a soldier enters into combat he (or she) has to tame the fear of injury, the fear of pain, and perhaps the biggest fear of all, the fear of death, but yet the soldier still pushes forward. No matter what order the soldier receives, no matter how uncertain the soldier’s future, no matter how close to death he (or she) is, the soldier still prevails. The soldier does not quit or run away, the soldier does not cower, but rather the soldier stands up and fights. He (or she) puts aside all his (or her) fears and fulfills his (or her) orders. That is what courage is for a soldier. Many soldiers show great amounts of courage every day for their country, and I thank each and every veteran here, those not here, and those no longer with us for showing us that courage as well.

Matthew Stacy - Sacrifice

Sacrifice – an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy as defined by dictionary.com. These are mild words compared to the cost that the military families, our country, and especially our service men and women experience. Families of our military experience first, in missing their family members. Husbands and wives experience losses when the spouses are deployed. Children of service men and women experience expense because their mom or dad is away. Obviously, our service people experience sacrifice. Sacrifice ranges in all sorts of levels from volunteering time, to missing their families, to physical and mental distress and even death. The United States of America is great because sacrifice has played a hug roll in the development and continuance of our society. We should thank all of those who have sacrificed to make and to keep the United State of America the greatest country in the world.

What Veteran's Day Means to Me - Tatey Kowalski

Veterans day is a special day out of the year meant to commemorate and honor those seated before us, and those who cannot be here today. What veterans day means to me is not big words that are empty and hollow, but more a feeling from the heart. There are no words to describe the utter respect that myself and many others feel towards veterans. There is no greater honor than what has been earned by those seated before us. This program was designed with the idea that veteran’s day means something to every single one of us, both up here on the stage and down seated in the audience. What veteran’s day means to me is something that can never be shared through words, and I’m sure many people here feel the same way. Its not something that you can describe easily, you can't throw around a few words like respect and honor to fully capture the intensity of the raw emotion that it contains. Veteran’s day is not a tangible thing that you can hold or say, but rather a sensation of passion. Thank you.

What Veteran's Day Means to Me - Gwena Market

Veterans day means many things, from freedom to sacrifice to honor. This day is also a day to give thanks to the people who have served in the US Military. Veterans have sacrificed many things to protect us and deserve to be honored because of it. Without you, who knows what the United States would be like. When I think of this Veterans Day, I don’t just think about what I am going to wear that day, or what I am going to learn in school that day, I think about the daily lives and the sacrifices of those who are fighting in wars, giving up their lives to protect ours. We are all glad you are here today so we can thank you for everything you have done for us and for the United States.

What Veteran's Day Means to Me - Erin Urge

Veterans Day is a day of honor. It is a day when people come together to celebrate our veteran’s sacrifice for our country. Veterans become “veterans” because they possess the honor, bravery, and patriotism needed to stand up for our country. Without these people, America would not be what it is today. Veterans Day is not only a celebration, but also a memorial to remember those whom we have lost. Muhammad Ali once said, “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.” Veterans are some of the most courageous people in the world. Thank you veterans for giving your time and service for our country.
